If you prefer to prepare your own meals, you should be able to find everything you need from the local grocery stores like Lidia’s. Just across the street from Lidia’s is a fruit and vegetable stand. The proprietor travels to Guadalajara once a week and returns on Friday evenings with a truckload of fruits and vegetables. So, shop Friday night or Saturday morning for the freshest picks. Of course, you may pick your own fruit from the many banana, lime, papaya and mango trees in the village.
There are two liquor stores in the main part of town. Beer can be purchased from any of the small grocery stores. If you want "fine" wine, bring it with you. If you are content with ok wine that's good for drinking, making Sangria, or cooking, you can find it in town.
There are also butchers where you can get hamburger, chicken, and pork. They will most likely grind beef for you to make hamburger. Check out the fishing co-op to see what’s fresh for the day or walk south of the jardín down Tamarindo Street and on the left you’ll find a small shop where you can get Molida for ceviche (ground fish), shrimp, and other seafood items.
In the center of town you'll find one of three tortilla shops. They open early and close up by Noon. There is another one at the south end of town by the primary school and another just as you enter the main part of town. When the shop closes, that's it for fresh tortillas. Currently none of the stores sell tortillas throughout the day.
