We recently spent a week in beautiful La Manzanilla and stayed in the upper terrace apartment of Casa Alegria. We loved its open concept, with the warm breezes blowing through. The sweeping views of the bay and jungle hillside were stunning. There is a small intimate dipping pool, however we spent time each day in the beautiful infinity pool floating around on the pool noodles! Each day we took a 15 minute walk down the hill to the town below, to enjoy a morning coffee in the square, a walk on the beach, or dip in the sea. Be sure to head down to one of the local bars or restaurants to watch the spectacular sunset! This is a beautiful, welcoming and well maintained home with owners who certainly take pride in their casa. We would definitely go back.

My November vacation to La Manzanilla, a beautiful jewel of a village, was absolutely first-rate thanks to Elizabeth and Richard’s beautiful accommodations at Casa de la Algeria. The casa itself is a very private tropical paradise featuring beautiful grounds and lush vegetation. You won’t want to leave. I stayed in “The Garden Suite” where there is a separate stairwell accessing the gardens and an exclusive dipping pool, fed by a waterfall. The bright, sunny suite was a cheerful place to stay, characterized by tall colonial-style windows; leading from the bedroom, is your very own furnished patio overlooking palms and papaya trees. This was a glorious place to enjoy a morning coffee and watch the green parakeets.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a double-sink, large fridge and gas stove/oven. As someone who likes to cook, I found this kitchen contained everything that is required to make a main dish from start to finish. The ensuite washing machine and clothes line were convenient amenities. The hosts really did think of everything when outfitting this rental suite: a beautiful Mexican Talavera water dispenser, fictional novels left behind by other comfortable travelers, comfortable queen-sized bed, fluffy beach towels, ceiling fans in every room, WiFi, and access to the sun exposed infinity pool, the poolside palapa and hammock.
Every morning I walked down the hill to the Tenacatita Bay fishing village and the 5 kilometre stretch of golden sand beach. It’s a rather short 10 minute walk to the ocean. People who live in this town are remarkably friendly (and I am a Canadian!). Families who are sitting outside of their homes will call out “Buenos Dias” as you pass them by on the road. As a female travelling alone, I felt safe and the people who live here are truly good souls. Bring your grocery shopping bag as you explore the village as there are many independent stores that sell anything you might need to make your own food. A fantastic beauty spa, Bel Mondo, owned and operated by a Canadian resident, is now open for business. The town itself is a culinary fantasy land with plenty of restaurants to choose from. I dream of going back here one day. Thank you Elizabeth and Richard, for your warm hospitality.
